Product Overview

99.99% Zinc Flat Top Anodes are Special High Grade zinc anodes produced for electroplating bath applications where high anode purity is required to ensure deposit quality and bath chemistry stability. Zinc metal coatings applied by electroplating provide superior corrosion protection on iron and steel compared to other coating types – electroplated zinc deposits are purer, thinner, and more ductile than hot-dipped galvanized coatings and can be made brighter and more lustrous for decorative applications. In the plating bath the zinc anode dissolves to replenish zinc ions consumed at the cathode during deposition, maintaining bath metal concentration without manual chemical additions. The 99.99% purity eliminates tramp elements particularly lead, cadmium, and iron that would contaminate the bath and degrade deposit quality, adhesion, and corrosion performance. Zinc is also used in galvanizing steel to prevent corrosion, in zinc die casting alloys, and in copper-based alloys such as brass. Forms: flat top anodes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common technical inquiries regarding 99.99% Zinc Anodes
Impurities in the zinc anode dissolve into the plating bath along with the zinc, accumulating over time. Lead above approximately 0.003% causes rough, dark deposits and reduces coating ductility. Iron contamination increases bath viscosity and produces streaky deposits. Cadmium co-deposits with zinc and creates regulatory and disposal problems for the bath solution. 99.99% SHG purity keeps all these contaminants below threshold levels throughout the anode's service life, ensuring consistent deposit quality and extending bath chemistry maintenance intervals.
Electroplated zinc coatings are deposited from solution at near-ambient temperature, producing a pure fine-grained deposit that is thinner (typically 5-25 microns versus 45-85 microns for hot-dip) and more ductile than the zinc-iron alloy layers that form during hot-dip galvanizing. Electroplated coatings are smoother and brighter, making them preferred for decorative hardware, fasteners, and consumer products. Hot-dip galvanizing provides thicker total zinc mass and is preferred for structural steel and outdoor infrastructure where maximum corrosion life is the priority.
Flat top zinc anodes are typically used in slotted anode baskets or titanium anode frames that hold the anode perpendicular to the cathode rack in the plating tank. The flat top geometry provides a consistent cross-section that dissolves uniformly across the anode face, maintaining even current distribution and stable bath zinc concentration. As the anode dissolves the remaining stub should be replaced before it drops below the effective current distribution height to prevent current density variations across the cathode.
